1. Care for a few people (right now, probably your black friends). Think of 3-5 for whom this week probably isn’t going well and send a message:

“Hey friend, I’m just checking in to ask if there’s anything you need. I’m available if you need to vent, process, or be distracted. Or, I can check in a few times in the next few days.

  2. Give. Pick a bail fund, or support the ACLU. Offer to match an amount of giving and ask people you’re connected to on social media to send you receipts.

  3. Find words for what you believe, how you’re feeling right now, and why. Practice with yourself. Write it out & say it out loud. Share it with a few close friends.

“I feel stuck - a lot of people I know are hurting and there’s not a lot I can do to help. I wish I could do more to make the world better, and I am learning to trust that the little things I can do with people do matter.”

  4. Use those words with someone you normally wouldn’t share these things with. Maybe with relatives or acquaintances.

“Hey. We’ve talked about social issues in the past. How are you feeling about everything going on? [insert what you wrote above].
